Norman (1066-1158)

This section covers the period from the Norman Conquest in 1066, through the reigns of William II, Henry I and Stephen and his death in 1158. Coins of the Anarchy are also included. Following the death of Henry I, the country was divided in its support for his daughter Matilda and his nephew Stephen. Fighting broke out between the rival factions which lasted for most of the next 20 years. A solution was agreed when Stephen was accorded the right to reign from 1154 until his death in 1158, but he would be succeeded by Matilda's son who became Henry II.
