Penny
This section is for pennies struck in any metal up to decimalisation.
The penny has been the basic unit of currency since the Saxon period and was itself derived from the Roman denarius. Although the bronze penny ceased to be legal tender on decimalisation, the name survived as the New Penny, equivalent to 2.4 old pennies.
